A website is the first point of contact with a potential customer, as most people look to the internet for opinions before making purchases online or in store. Any unauthorised changes to a site can damage the reputation of the business, and seriously compromise its relationship with users.

MSCprotect's Defacement Monitor identifies any unauthorised changes made to a corporate website, and instantly notifies the customer. Website defacement refers to an attack which: 1) replaces the content on your website with potentially offensive or erroneous graphics and text or, more seriously, 2) places imperceptible code on your site, which is activated when a user accesses it, often triggering a download of malicious code onto the user's hard drive which may subsequently be controlled by a hacker remotely, creating an unsuspecting botnet. Website defacement attacks are increasing, however many organisations do not manage this critical threat.

A website alteration could be the first indication that a pharming attack is underway. Whilst many pharmers redirect users to lookalike "spoofed" sites, other attacks make a subtle change to a legitimate site in order to harvest confidential data or insert malicious code. MSCprotect's Defacement Monitor guards a company's website by establishing baseline content; approved content for the website, and then compares it to the live site at regular intervals. If a mismatch occurs, MSCprotect will immediately detect this and send an alert, so that the problem can be dealt with before customers are put at risk.

The Defacement Monitor identifies unintentional or unauthorised changes made to corporate websites by employees, helping to control the official brand message and reputation.
